Systems and articles

A couple of folks asked me about article level metadata in as in, for example:

Manuel Castells

Seamus Deane

James Gleick

Details are available on the OCLC website:

OCLC has added article-level citation records to search results from four FirstSearch base package databases: GPO, ArticleFirst, Medline and ERIC. [Article-level citation records added to [OCLC]] offers other library services if it recognizes an incoming IP address. So, for example, here is what I see. I have links through to a resolver and catalog at the OCLC Library which show up as links under the entry. It will link through to fulfilment options where it knows about them; here it knows that my library subscribes to an appropriate fulltext resource so I can go through.

Library leaders should be drawn from across the organization. Any idea that technology leaders are overly specialised or too distant from general library work is outmoded and counter-productive.
