Tom Hickerson, Vice Provost, Libraries and Cultural Resources, and University Librarian, University of Calgary, visitied us last week together with several colleagues. He spoke about their ambitious plans for the new Taylor Family Digital Library.
It was especially interesting to hear about the organizational structure within Libraries and Cultural Resources, which brings together several ‘memory organizations’ and the University Press, and their various professional expertises, around a shared mission.
Libraries and Cultural Resources (LCR) brings together the University Library, Archives and Special Collections, The Nickle Arts Museum, and the UofC Press. LCR develops, preserves, and provides access to large collections of print, digital and three-dimensional objects, and archival materials. This unique organizational structure provides a key strategic advantage to researchers and makes information – regardless of format – readily available.
LCR has a number of subject specialists including Subject Librarians, Special Collections Librarians, Archivists, and Curators.
