Pride and prejudice

Lorcan

Pride and prejudice tops fiction list:

Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen’s salty-tongued commentary on the plight of women in the 19th century, perhaps best known today for providing Colin Firth with the opportunity to pose in a wet shirt in front of many grateful viewers, has won the Women’s Watershed Fiction poll, it was announced yesterday on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour. [Guardian Unlimited Books | News | Change your life with Jane Austen]

Pride and Prejudice comes in at number 33 in our Top 1000 works in libraries, just behind Wuthering Heights(29) and Jane Eyre(30). Persuasion, my own favorite Austen novel is all the way back at 450.

Smile: let's see your teeth

I was excited to discover the graphic novel Smile by Raina Telgemeier. The subject matter has strong personal resonances for me.
