Academic blogging

Lorcan

I had been going to mention UThink, the blogging platform provided the University of Minnesota Libraries. Here it is mentioned in a Guardian article which considers academic blogging more widely, interviewing faculty and others about their use of blogs.

Most blogs are individual efforts, but earlier this year, the University of Minnesota Libraries announced UThink (https://blog.lib.umn.edu/), an initiative intended to make it easy for faculty, staff and students to use blogs, either for educational or personal purposes. The university has also made blogs an object of academic study. The rhetoric department has just published Into the Blogosphere (https://blog.lib.umn.edu/blogosphere/), an essay collection about blogging that covers weblog journalism, the gender/ethnic biases of the blogosphere and much more. University Futures are shaping Library Futures

Libraries are not ends in themselves, but serve the interests of the organizations of which they are a part. As university emphasis varies around research, education and career poles, we can expect to see libraries evolve to support those emphases more strongly.
