A Hullistic approach

Lorcan

The University of Hull has done a lot of work in recent years looking at ‘e-services integration’ across academic services. This work can be tracked in its presentation pages.
The most recent presentation [pdf] is from the Sakai conference, December 2004, which focuses on the use of u-Portal and high-level service architectures.
They support the general emergent pattern, which sees recombinance of finer grained service elements across library, learning and admininistrative environments. Of course, this is something that is yet only intermittently supported in our applications.
They also promise the results of a university survey of what search tools are used and where in January 2005, which is something to look out for.

University Futures are shaping Library Futures

Libraries are not ends in themselves, but serve the interests of the organizations of which they are a part. As university emphasis varies around research, education and career poles, we can expect to see libraries evolve to support those emphases more strongly.
