The University of Edinburgh strategic [plan](https://www.planning.ed.ac.uk/strategic%5Fplanning/SP2008-12/SP0812.htm?ref=lorcandempsey.net) for 2008-12 states a new mission:

> The mission of our University is the creation, dissemination and curation of knowledge. \[[Governance and Strategic Planning: Strategic Planning – Strategic Plan 08-12](https://www.planning.ed.ac.uk/strategic%5Fplanning/SP2008-12/SP0812.htm?ref=lorcandempsey.net)\]
