![donq.gif](https://www.lorcandempsey.net/content/images/wordpress/lorcan/donq.gif)I am pleased to note that we have updated the [OCLC Top 1000](https://www.oclc.org/research/top1000/default.htm?ref=lorcandempsey.net) list.
This is a list of the most widely held *works* in WorldCat, which in turn represents the holdings of many thousands of libraries around the world. A *work* brings together the various editions, translations and so on of an item. Naturally, the list is rich in classics, works with long and varied publishing history.
Colleagues have put together some interesting [factoids](https://www.oclc.org/research/top1000/factoids.htm?ref=lorcandempsey.net) and [related lists](https://www.oclc.org/research/top1000/other.htm?ref=lorcandempsey.net). You might end up spending a lot of time here!
Pictured is [Don Quixote](https://www.worldcatlibraries.org/wcpa/isbn/0965495264?ref=lorcandempsey.net). It was published [400 years](https://www.library.jhu.edu/about/news/exhibits/quixote?ref=lorcandempsey.net) ago this year and is listed in 11th place, just ahead of [Beowulf](https://www.worldcatlibraries.org/wcpa/oclc/2591622?ref=lorcandempsey.net) and just behind [Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland](https://www.worldcatlibraries.org/wcpa/isbn/0763608041?ref=lorcandempsey.net).
The entries link through to OpenWorldCat – why don’t you write a [review](https://blog.oclc.org/lorcand/archives/000825.html?ref=lorcandempsey.net)!
Note: we use our [FRBR algorithm](https://www.oclc.org/research/projects/frbr/algorithm.htm?ref=lorcandempsey.net) to create the work sets.
