I [mentioned](https://blog.oclc.org/lorcand/archives/000754.html?ref=lorcandempsey.net) a while ago that Thom is [looking](https://outgoing.typepad.com/outgoing/2005/08/software%5Flicens.html?ref=lorcandempsey.net) into our [OCLC Research Public License](https://www.oclc.org/research/software/license/default.htm?ref=lorcandempsey.net) to see how we can do what we want to do in as simple a way as possible. We feel that there is too much case by case discussion. In that context I was interested to see this entry from Simon Phipps, Sun’s Chief Open Source Officer.

> I consider license proliferation a key issue for open source. We need unnecessary licenses to be retired in favour of a smaller number of more modern ones … \[[Simon Phipps, SunMink](https://blogs.sun.com/webmink?entry=addressing%5Fproliferation%5Fdeeds%5Fnot%5Fjust&ref=lorcandempsey.net)\]
