I [wrote about](https://blog.oclc.org/lorcand/archives/001236.html?ref=lorcandempsey.net) intentional data the other day. Here is a small example I have just come across. Tim O’Reilly is talking about [Asterisk](https://www.asterisk.org/?ref=lorcandempsey.net), an open source PBX solution. he wonders why it is not more discussed.

> It seems a bit like the early days of things like Perl and Linux, when they were happening under the radar, known to all the hands-on practitioners in the industry, but not covered much by the mainstream press.

> Book sales are similar too 🙂 For the 15 months since it was published, [Asterisk: The Future of Telephony](https://www.oreilly.com/catalog/asterisk/index.html?ref=lorcandempsey.net) has been #12 on our list of O’Reilly bestsellers. So like Perl and Linux before it, Asterisk is getting uptake ahead of its recognition by the mainstream. \[[O’Reilly Radar](https://radar.oreilly.com/?ref=lorcandempsey.net)\]

Sales data tells a story.
