Juha Hakala and Pete Johnston give a useful [update](https://www.ukoln.ac.uk/metadata/dcmi/dc2004/nisomi/intro%5Ffiles/v3%5Fdocument.htm?ref=lorcandempsey.net) of Collection and Service description within the NISO Metasearch initiative at the [DCMI meeting](https://dc2004.library.sh.cn/?ref=lorcandempsey.net) in Shanghai.  
Despite [several years of activity](https://blog.oclc.org/lorcand/archives/000403.html?ref=lorcandempsey.net), it seems to me that the issues discussed in this presentation have yet to come into real community focus. Maybe the [NISO Metasearch initiative](https://www.niso.org/committees/MetaSearch-info.html?ref=lorcandempsey.net) will advance us further towards consensus. I will watch with interest.  
Pete also provides a full and typically clear [overview](https://www.ukoln.ac.uk/metadata/dcmi/dc2004/cdwg/intro%5Ffiles/v3%5Fdocument.htm?ref=lorcandempsey.net) of the work of the DC Collection Description Working Group and the DC CD AP (ummm… that’s the Dublin Core Collection Description Application Profile to you and me ;-).
